It's OK To Be Allergic!

Hi again! This post is about how it is OK to be allergic, and that you can still make great friends and have a lot of fun even if you have severe allergies. Sometimes people say it must be hard being so allergic to so many things, but you get used to it.

I know it doesn't feel nice when you can't join in, or not being able to have what your friends have, but if you have plan ahead you can keep things really similar. So, if you are having a party or a picnic, with friends, you could ask them what they will be eating and make something that is almost the same as they are having. That way you don't feel so different. My Mum and Dad make things to look as similar as possible, and then hardly anyone notices.

When you eat at a restaurant you have to get someone to check that they can give you safe food. My Mum normally does this for me and my sister. She makes sure the restaurant know that my allergies are really serious. If they can't let me eat there safely then we just choose somewhere else to eat.

It's not nice going to the hospital a lot but the doctors and nurses are there to help you feel much better. It can be scary when you need an ambulance too, but they also are there to get you the help you need. Not everyone with allergies even needs an ambulance, but if you do you have to remember that they are there to make you better again.

It's OK to be different because we are who we are, and even if your friend isn't allergic it's OK. They can still learn about allergies and help you to stay safe, and you can still have fun with them. Lots of my friends do this, and it really means so much to me when they think about that. It's nice to have friends who appreciate you are allergic to things so they can help you. You can then also make sure that you help them with whatever makes them different. It is definitely OK to be different.

If you go away on camp, or somewhere where your parents aren't with you, you need to make sure that people know how to help you. It might feel scary if you have an allergic reaction and your parents aren't with you, but it is fine to be scared. You have to try and fight against feeling worried, and concentrate on getting through the reaction. They can help you with your medicine and get an ambulance to come and help you. Then they can call your Mum and Dad too.

Sometimes, you might not want to tell everyone that you have allergies, and this can be annoying. You don't want to say, 'Hi, I'm Princess E and I have to tell you that I'm allergic to lots of things'. The problem is that they won't know if you don't tell them. So, maybe you have to just decide how you will tell people. Then make sure you have someone who can help you with your medicines and epipens. After that, you can get back to just having fun with friends.

If you don't tell people where your epipens pens are, and you go into an anaphylactic reaction, you could die. So, there isn't much point not telling them where they are. And you must remember to take them everywhere you go.

Once, I had someone not believe how bad my allergies were and they tried to make me have a bad reaction. If someone doesn't want to believe you then it is probably a good idea to walk away and find one of your friends who believes you. So, when you make friends with people you need to get to know them properly and see how their personality is. Then you will know if they are a true friend to you. Remember this, and don't forget it!
I hope that this blog post helps everyone that is allergic to things. I have spent ages writing it! And I hope that you aren't too scared to make friends and have fun even though you have allergies.

More soon,

Bye Bye.

Love from Princess E! X
